Drama Assessment - Explorative Strategy
Drama Assessment - Explorative Strategy
Video:
In class, we were asked to create a piece that used an explorative strategy. We decided to use two - :
- Thought tracking : We only used thought tracking for the Maria characters because we wanted to show how the rich 'suffer' and how the poor people of the favelas really do suffer because without connections or family, people don't have anywhere to go. Through thought tracking we were able to emphasize how the favelas are overshadowed by the rich people and how the rich have never known how the poor feel because they are busy worrying about something that is probably a first world problem. For example, not being able to travel with their parents. Meanwhile, the poorer person does not have any parents because they got involved with drug lords which is very common in the favelas. We can see a lot of this in Rio de Janeiro as we saw in the pictures as a class. The rich are treated like royalty and the poor are treated worse than garbage. The image shows how the favelas don't have facilities and are built impromptu with debris and how the rich people have tennis courts and pools on every single floor.
- Cross cutting: We used cross cutting to showcase the difference of the rich and the poor. In the rich scene, the aunt not only did not go forward with a punishment but also did not chastise her to the point where Maria had to leave the house. Rich Maria was irresponsible for her actions and when she came home late, her aunt let her go easily. Whereas, poor Maria did not get a chance to explain her actions even if she was saving someones life as we had seen in another scene performed in class earlier. Poor Aunt was impulsive and insistent about her opinions while Rich aunt gave Maria a chance to speak about her actions. In fact, poor aunt even kicked Maria out of her house with nowhere to go. These were the differences in our scene alone. However, there are examples of this in daily life in Rio de Janeiro showcased in the picture below. The favelas are closed together and remote while the rich have developed roads and nicer buildings with good facilities.
Performance video: Fantastic evidence of the development of your performance skills and your knowledge and understanding of explorative strategies to devise drama.
ReplyDeleteReflection: Lovely work; you have demonstrated an awareness of your skills development this term and been honest about what your strengths and weaknesses are. You have identified targets of how you can improve and thought about the purpose of drama in itself through this unit of work. To get a higher grade you could have planned some of the responses a little better to avoid repetition and generalisations and make your comments more concise and specific. You could also have talked about some of the greater concepts we explored in the unit. 5/8 Criteria A
